Which is better, RG59, RG6 or RG11 cable?

RG6 is the most common choice. But let's not forget. RG specifications, which used to be called "radio guide", are used to differentiate different types of cables. However, they are not the only way. RG6 cables are thicker and have better shielding than RG59 cables. Many RG59 cables, however, are simply RG6 cables that weren't designed to meet these specifications and are just repackaged.

How to determine what you have

You'll find words at the sides of almost every cable. You should see words on the side of any cable. It should state that it is RG59, RG6 or RG11. If not, it's likely not professional grade cable and should be avoided. To find out more, you can Google the writing on the side.

You will find a braided sheath of metal around the white or clear center of each of these cables. It may also have a small piece of copper at its center.

RG59 stands for antennas

I don't usually buy RG59 cables anymore, but if I do, it will be for an antenna. RG59 cable is more susceptible to loss and can't handle satellite frequencies.

Most satellite cables are made using RG6.

Properly constructed RG6 cables should allow you to receive a stronger signal over a longer time. This is especially important for satellite TV, as there is a lot more signal. Antennas work well with RG59 cables, but they also work well with RG6.

RG11 is for specific uses only

RG11 cables are used for burial and very long runs. It is so thick it requires special connectors. Also, it can be difficult to bend. It is not recommended for indoor installations as it can be a pain to use.

What should you look for in a cable?

You should look for cables that have been sweep-tested to 3GHz. This means that they will work with satellites. They also need to have a solid copper core conductor wherever power is being used, such as where the power inserter is. Quad-shielded cables don't seem to be very important for home, but they are an option.

Take stock of cables you salvaged from other projects. Are there any corrosion marks around the connectors Is it possible that the cable has been bent at any point? It's not always the best option to use older cables. While they may be useful for a brief time, they may not be the best option for long-term solutions.

If you want to learn an awful lot more about cables, check out Cables 101, our series that takes you through all the different types of cables and all the terms associated with them.

Cables available for purchase

Skip the home store if you are looking for cables to connect satellite TV and cellular boosters. The majority of cables that you will find in the home store are inferior quality. These cables have ends that are not commercial grade. Bulk cables purchased at home don't always have solid copper center conductors. This is essential for modern satellite TV systems.

Instead, buy from a high-end retailer like Solid Signal. It'll be easy to find the right cable for you and it will fit your needs. You'll also find lots of tech support at no cost. Our 100% US-based phone center can assist you in deciding what cable is best for you.

Should you be worried if your phone gets hot on a wireless charger?

Wireless chargers. We love 'em. We have quite a few to choose from at Solid Signal. Wireless charging is now available on all high-end phones. We jumped on the bandwagon early as you can see from this 2010 video.

You can also check How to Remove Activate Windows Watermark Permanently Windows 10

Wireless charging uses a process called induction which transfers power over short distances using targeted radio broadcasting technology. This is a basic explanation, but it works well enough for this article. Wireless chargers that use Qi are the most popular. They can be used with many devices.

"Feeling hot, hot, hot"

No, I'm not talking about the inexplicable staying power of this video. The way your phone feels after you remove it from the wireless charger is what I am referring to. Many people have noticed that the area where the phone touches its charger feels extremely warm. It's almost to the point where people worry.

It wasn't that long ago that Samsung phones literally burst into flames. There are many YouTube videos showing people claiming their phones caught fire. Like any YouTube video (except for ours of course) these should be taken with a grain of salt.

However, wireless charging can cause phones to heat up. This is a problem?

Hot phones: Why?

Inefficiency is almost always the cause of heat. Engines heat up because they are unable to convert all of the energy from exploding gasoline into motion. People heat up because they cannot efficiently metabolize sugar when exercising and friction from movement. This is also true for charging phones. The battery's inefficiency in absorbing and storing power means that phones heat up when they are charging.

Wireless charging is by its very nature inefficient. The conductivity of electricity in air is not as good as that of wires. There will be heat. It could also be the battery. The charging pad's energy is expressed as heat and not usable power.

However, should you be concerned?

According to the Qi consortium, heat is not a concern in any of the cases they have tested. I'd go one step further. They have not tested every case and phone. Some cases are thicker which results in less energy transfer. Some cases are made of man-made materials that are more susceptible to melting under extreme heat. It's unlikely, however, to be an issue.

Are there any things you can do?

I have tested many wireless charging devices and always check for scorch marks or melting plastic after long charging sessions. I will be truthful and say that I have never seen one. There's always the chance that you might. If you have a large case, it is best to keep the standard charging speed. If you have an Otterbox-sized case, I wouldn't recommend using a Fast Charger. It could be superstition, but you need to be careful if you try to run twice as much current through a thick case.

Wireless charging and heat are not something I worry about. If it gets too hot, the phone will shut down automatically to prevent it from being damaged. It should also be turned off when it becomes dangerous. It's still a good idea for your phone to be monitored and to keep flammable items away from it. This is just common sense.

Can you use a magnet mount and still do wireless charging?

Okay, everyone has a smartphone. Many people prefer to charge their phones wirelessly. Many people wish to mount their phone in the car. Here is where you run into problems.

You can also check How to Connect AirPods to Windows and Mac Devices

How magnetic phone mounts work

Everybody knows the basics of magnets. It's wrong to assume that any phone can be used with a magnet mount. Many phones have aluminum backs, which aren't magnetic. Some phones also have glass backs that aren't magnetic.

Most magnet mounts include a small piece of metal that can be stuck to the back of your phone, or to your phone case. This seems like an easy solution.

Unfortunately...

If your phone is intended to charge wirelessly, placing a large piece of metal on its back will block the wireless charging coils. You have several options for wireless charging and a magnet mount.

1. Maybe you shouldn't.

This is unfortunately the best and most sensible solution to the problem. You may want to avoid wireless charging if magnet mounting is important to you. It will be just like 2015, where you use a cord to charge your device. It's not great, but it's convenient.

2. Attach the metal to another object.

Attach the metal plate to your phone instead of attaching it to your phone. This will make it more efficient than if it were attached to the phone with a metal plate and then placed in a case.

Pop sockets or other grips on your phone have become very popular in recent years. To charge wirelessly, you will need to remove the device from your phone. If you do this, the metal plate at the back of the phone will provide a strong connection.

3. Put the metal plate on the top or bottom

The middle is where the charging coils are located for your phone. You can place the plate on a larger phone, such as a "plus", where it will not interfere with the charging coils or the camera.

This is the best way to go if you have a large enough phone. You can mount the metal plate in several ways. For temporary fixes, you can use masking tape to secure it. You should ensure that your phone can be charged and that your magnet mount can be used. Although it may take some time, larger phones should be able to do this.

Are there any solutions?

It's possible, and it just takes a matter of doing so. The charging coils for phones look like a donut. There is plenty of space for manufacturers to place a small metal plate inside. Magnet mounts will likely take off as they add almost no weight to your phone and aren't being used.

12 things to do after installing Windows 10

Windows 10 is the latest version of Microsoft's famous operating systems that drives more than 60 percent of the market, according to statistics. It is intuitive, safe, stable, and extremely user-friendly. It is also the most efficient version of Windows, with its ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and low resource consumption.

You can also check How to Connect AirPods to Windows and Mac Devices

There are certain activities you should do when installing Windows 10 on a new computer. Here are 12 things to do after installing Windows 10.

Windows activation

Depending on the way you obtained your version of Win 10, there are two basic methods of activation. The first is to enter a product key. Both methods require that you go to Settings, then click on the activation button located on the left side.

Log in to your Microsoft account to activate your computer with a digital licence. The OS will then activate automatically.

It is easy to activate your product key. Just click the buttonChange the product keyClick on the button and type in 25 characters code that you received with Windows 10.

Install updates

To keep your computer stable and functioning properly, make sure you have the latest version of Windows installed at all times. You can also visitSettings >> Windows UpdatesClick hereKeep checking for new updatesClick the button. After the computer has finished checking for updates, it will prompt you to install them.

This is also a great place to organize when, how, and what updates your system will install automatically, as well as which updates you'll manually perform.

Check Hardware

Windows 10 lets you see if your hardware is having problems under the new OS.

Click on Settings to check your sound, storage, and graphics. If you were able update or activate Windows, your network and internet settings should be fine. However, you can still return to the System panel to go to Network settings to verify for any problems.

Install drivers (optional)

Windows 10 will recognize most hardware options on the market. However, certain equipment may require some personalization. This is especially true for graphics cards, which can be updated by going to the manufacturer's website and selecting the most current drivers.

Windows Defender must be updated and enabled

Windows 10 comes pre-installed with firewall and virus protection software. You only need to go to Settings >> Updates >> Windows Defender. This is where you will be able to update security features and your antivirus library. It is the only place you need to ensure basic online safety.

Install additional software

Install the software that you are using, but make sure you have Windows Security enabled, especially if downloading software from the Internet. Although Google Chrome is the most popular browser, JavaScript support is required by some websites. I recommend that you use Microsoft Edge as your default browser. Imagine looking for hnd assignment help online and the service you choose requires JavaScript to submit a request. Your browser could cause the problem by constantly refreshing the page.

Remove Old Windows Files

If an older version of Windows was installed, the new version will retain all files in the Old Windows folder. To free up more space on your hard disk, browse that folder and find the files you want to keep.

Personalize Windows environment

Right-click the Windows desktop and select Personalize. This will let you change the look of your work environment. You can modify colors, fonts and wallpaper, as well as screensaver and other elements of the user interface.

Find the best resolution

Right-click on the desktop again and select Display settings. This will adjust screen resolution and other settings to suit your preferences and needs.

Windows Explorer allows you to open this computer

Windows Explorer defaults to opening with Quick Access. However, it is easier to modify this setting. Simply open Win Explorer from the top menu.ViewTab and click on Options. Select the Explorer that you want to launch with This Computer.

Get Cortana to respond by speaking your voice

Cortana, Windows' assistant, responds to voice commands. Click Win+S to train Cortana to respond only to your voice. Scroll down to the "Respond best" option. Follow the instructions to calibrate Cortana so she responds to your voice.

Backup Windows

All you need to do in the end is to backup your OS to be able to go back to your initial settings. Click on Settings in the Start menu. Next, click Update and Security. Finally, choose Backup from the left side. You can choose how to backup your data and then continue using Windows as usual.

Conclusion

These are the 12 most important steps to take in order to get a functional and clean Windows 10 version. If you think there are other steps that should be taken, please let us know by commenting.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is an impressive Xbox Series X workout

Microsoft Flight Simulator has been the best thing to push my computer further. This might seem odd for a game that focuses primarily on flying solo around empty skies, but Asobo's new version of the iconic franchise is technically innovative and ambitious. Asobo streams in precise city data and real-time weather effects to the screen. It's still a fun game, but Flight Simulator requires more from your CPU than most AAA games.

The new version for Xbox Series consoles will be available on Game Pass tomorrow. In fact, it's the first Microsoft game for Xbox Series consoles that won't run natively on any Xbox One model at all, though an xCloud version is also coming to mobile and will eventually hit older Xbox consoles as well. As with my PC, I have been using a preview build from Microsoft on my Series X for a few weeks. It is the best workout I've seen so far.

Microsoft Flight Simulator offers players the opportunity to fly a variety aircraft around a beautiful rendered model of the planet. There have been some changes to the tutorials. The missions are shorter and should be easier to learn. Also, the commands have been made easy to use on the Xbox controller. Although the flight model can be made as complex as the PC version, there aren’t many Xbox-compatible flight sticks.

Flight Simulator runs at a 4K resolution with 30 frames per second. Overall, the Series X was more stable than my i5 6600K/GTX1080 rig five years ago, but it is less stable now. It is not perfect. You can see the frame rate drop to 30 in dense areas such as downtown Manhattan. The LG CX OLED TV is capable of variable refresh rates, so you won't feel tearing or stuttering if the frame rate fluctuates above or below 30.

The graphics settings are comparable to those you would get on a top-of-the-line gaming PC. You can see the game's stunning visuals from high up, but the effects of the ground are more noticeable. This is due to the way photogrammetry streaming technology works. If you fly fast into Manhattan or Shinjuku some skyscrapers might not be loaded in memory at once. There were also some amusing glitches, such as cars driving on the Thames in London rather than on the Tower Bridge.

My colleague Tom Warren spent time testing the Series S version. The results were impressive for a small $299 box. It runs at 1080p, with reduced graphics effects and draw distances. However, the game delivers a solid Flight Simulator experience, and it will be the most affordable.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is now much more advanced than its predecessor. "World updates" allow for further expansion of the photogrammetry data across the globe. The Xbox version also has all of this, with the latest Nordics update, which includes hand-rendered points of interest and airports across Scandinavia, Iceland and Finland. (It's also worth noting that the PC version is getting a further update this week that Microsoft promises should dramatically improve performance across the board -- stay tuned for how that works in practice.)

The Xbox version is a bit too similar to the PC version, sometimes with a clunky cursor-driven interface. It is a bit conspicuous that there is a graphic settings menu, where you can only turn HDR on or off. It's better not to do too much than to make too little: What matters is that you have a great flying experience with the hardware available.

As I have played Microsoft Flight Simulator with the Xbox Series X, it doesn't seem like Asobo has missed much. It's an amazing technical accomplishment, and it's well worth checking out on Game Pass tomorrow.

Windows 11 now has its first beta release

Microsoft has released the first beta of Windows 11, available to those enrolled in its Windows Insider Program. Access to Windows 11 was previously only possible by installing the Dev preview. Microsoft claims that the builds are being validated and will be available to those who have enrolled in its Windows Insider Program.

You can also check Simple Ways to Fix Application Not Responding In Windows 10

To install the beta, you will need a compatible computer. It can be difficult to determine if your hardware is compatible with the next Windows version. Microsoft has an article on how to prepare for Insider builds that directs you to its system requirements page. The company has said that it will be paying close attention to how well 7th Gen Intel and AMD Zen 1 CPUs work during the testing period, so it's possible those systems could be allowed to run the beta but not the final release.

The Beta Channel Switch is simple, at least for the moment.

It's also great news for those who downloaded the Dev preview in order to have Windows 11 on their computers as soon as possible. However, they don't necessarily need to be on the bleeding edge (read: buggy). You can switch to the beta channel if you are in this same situation as me. To do so, go to Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program and click on Choose your Insider Settings.

Normally, switching from Dev to Beta requires an OS reinstall. However, according to Windows Insider's Twitter account, that will be possible for a short time. It was easy to switch to the Beta channel.

For those who are still running Windows 10, but are adventurous enough to join the beta, you can register for Microsoft's beta program here. Although Microsoft claims that Beta Channel releases are safer than Dev Channel releases, they are still betas. There will be bugs, crashes and missing features. Microsoft has even posted a list of current issues in a blog post. It also states that Teams Chat, which is available to some users in the Dev Channel, is not yet available to beta users.

Windows 11 is now available for download.

The shadow of the chip shortage is looming over tech’s big quarter

Tech earnings this quarter were, to the surprise of no one, high. The looming threat of a global semiconductor shortage was a glaring problem despite the record-setting revenues.

Although most of the tech companies were not too worried by their calls, Apple, Microsoft and Samsung called out component shortages as possible problems for their upcoming or previous quarters.

Apple warned in Q2 that part shortages could affect its iPad and Mac business to the tunes of $3 billion to 4 billion. CFO Luca Maestri said on last week's Q3 earnings call that it was able to keep those losses mainly limited to iPads and under $3 billion, in what was definitely a win for Apple. It came as CEO Tim Cook warned that supply shortages could affect the iPhone, the most valuable and profitable part of Apple's product line -- in the next quarter. This could prove to be more worrying for the company.

Microsoft, too, called out a decline in Windows OEM revenue (a drop of 3 percent) as being directly caused by supply chain constraints, even as its cloud revenue continued to soar. Although Microsoft's next-generation Xbox Series X consoles and Series S consoles sell well, there is simply not enough stock.

Similar results were seen at Samsung. The company saw an increase in revenue and operating profits year over year due to massive demand from its semiconductor division (which accounts more than a third of its revenues and half its profit). Samsung was also affected by lower overall demand and revenue from its mobile phone business. This is due to supply shortages and seasonal buying cycles.

Other companies, like Tesla, have taken more drastic steps to face the shortage: the company had to develop new firmware for whatever chips it could get its hands on, but CEO Elon Musk was blunt about the fact that semiconductors would be a big concern for the company. He stated that "the global chip shortage situation is still quite serious" and highlighted the difficulties Tesla had in obtaining chips to power its essential parts, including the seatbelt module airbags.

The chipmakers are also raising concerns. Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger noted on an earnings call that the shortage could last through 2023 across the industry, noting that he expects that "it will take another one to two years before the industry is able to completely catch up with demand." The company also called out "persistent industry-wide component in substrate shortages" -- meaning that Intel doesn't expect to be able to get enough of the raw materials it needs to make chips -- despite high demand for its processors. This could lead to "particularly acute shortages" of Intel's consumer chips during the third quarter. It would also be right as back-to school students are starting to buy more PCs.

AMD CEO Lisa Su was more optimistic, explaining to Yahoo Finance that although supply is still tight for 2021, things have been improving throughout the year. She stated that she believes things will improve as we move through the year and into next year.

As a group, you can see two trends. The first is that tech companies aren’t letting supply problems stop them from posting record revenues. It's clear, however, that the effects of the shortages are still being felt. Until capacity increases or demand decreases, worries about shortages, product delays and difficult-to-find gadgets will only increase as we approach the busy holiday season.
